Sonya Martinez-Ortiz is a Chicana/Latina, raised and living on Salt Lake City’s Westside. She holds a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Utah and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Georgetown’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership. Sonya is Executive Director of the Rape Recovery Center. She has spent over twenty years integrating an equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression lens into her work. She has experience in grassroots advocacy, equity and inclusion strategies, community development, policy advocacy, and trauma work. Sonya has worked as an Assistant Clinical Professor teaching undergraduate and graduate level social work courses and has volunteered for various Commissions and community based organizations. She is currently serving on the State of Utah’s Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission and the Board of Directors of Trauma Informed Utah. She enjoys quality time with family, reading, and connecting with the land.
